June Update 2016

Posted 8/6/2016

Exam season is well underway now with the Y10 and Y11 students sitting exams in school, the Y11s will soon reach their leaving date at the end of the month, following their final work experience placement. It is good to see that we have again ensured that all of the boys have firm placements in further education to move on to for September 2016 – and we all wish them every success in whatever they choose to do in the future.

Our 'new look' termly reports have received positive feedback from parents and carers, who are really pleased to be able to see what their child is doing across the whole school curriculum, including achievements in the unit activities, as well as the classroom.

The weather has finally improved and we are looking forward to a range of visits and activities over the second half of the term. We have had some staff absences that have meant that some activities such as body boarding and archery have been put on hold temporarily, however we have introduced some new areas of interest for the boys such as Lego Club and our Garden Club is now so popular that we have had to put on additional sessions for the boys. Recently we managed to purchase a new motorised go-kart, which arrived in school at the start of this half term and will hopefully soon be in use. Rosedale are continuing to develop their garden with a hobbit area including a barbecue and reading zone, no doubt photos will appear in this term’s newsletter.

This year we have scheduled our residential activities mainly across one week to minimise timetable disruption. As a result, the Glaisdale unit have their camp at Great Fryupdale, Bransdale their Barge trip on the Skipton Canal and the Y10 work experience placements will all take place during the week beginning 27th June. We are also hoping that we will be able to organise our long distance mountain bike ride in the last week of term for the boys who have been regularly attending mountain biking this term.

Our Sports day is planned for Tuesday 12th July –  if you are planning to come along please check with school first, so we can ensure we can accommodate any requests to attend.
